Nurul Huda was born on 13th March 1930 in Dalugram village, Silchar, Cachar District, Assam, into a respected Manipuri Muslim (Pangal) family. His father, Muhammad Ali, served as a magistrate in the British Government, and his mother was Ayesha. Raised in a household that emphasized integrity and service, Huda credits his upbringing for instilling in him a strong sense of social responsibility and empathy for the underprivileged.

Huda received his early education in Guwahati, Sylhet, and Silchar before completing his matriculation from Silchar Government High School in 1946. He pursued higher studies at St. Xaviers College, Calcutta, and graduated in Mechanical Engineering from Jadavpur University in 1953. Later, he also obtained a law degree from Surendranath Law College, Calcutta, in 1966.
